Offer details

Use this referral link, confirm the referral and make your first top-up of any amount to receive A$10 in your YouTrip wallet. I used YouTrip throughout trips to China and Malaysia and found it especially useful for everyday card purchases. YouTrip now advertises 4% overseas cashback for new customers for the first six months. The promotional artwork confirms a cap of A$25 per month: A$625 of eligible purchases reaches the cap, with up to A$150 across six qualifying months. Check the in-app eligibility and whether the welcome offer combines with the referral. The A$40 August cashback receipt in our review belongs to the previous 2% campaign. There is no foreign transaction fee, and in my experience the converted amount was usually very close to the live exchange rate shown on Google. For cash, I paired it with a Macquarie debit card: use YouTrip for overseas spending, then keep Macquarie as a strong ATM backup when you need more flexibility.

Exchange rate and getting cash

Skip the airport or shopping-centre money exchange counter when a suitable fee-free ATM is available. YouTrip supports in-app rate locking for ten wallet currencies and Mastercard wholesale conversion for other supported spending currencies without a foreign transaction fee. In my China and Malaysia trips, the final conversion was generally very close to the live Google exchange rate.

For cash, withdraw in the local currency and decline any ATM offer to convert the amount into AUD. That conversion is set by the ATM operator and is often worse. YouTrip includes up to A$1,500 of free overseas ATM withdrawals per calendar month; after reaching that limit, using a Macquarie debit card as a second option can be a practical combination. The local ATM may still charge its own fee with either card.

Exchange rates move continuously, so YouTrip will not always match the Google rate exactly. Check the rate shown in the YouTrip app and the ATM operator fee before confirming.

Eligibility and steps

Important: click the referral link before installing the YouTrip app, then tap Confirm on the referral page. Complete registration and verification, and make your first top-up of any amount. YouTrip states that both the new user and referrer receive A$10 once these steps are completed. A newer official announcement advertises 4% overseas cashback for six months for new customers. The welcome-offer artwork confirms an A$25 monthly cashback cap. At 4%, A$625 of eligible monthly purchases reaches that cap; the maximum across six qualifying months is A$150. Check the in-app terms and referral combination rules. YouTrip says it uses live mid-market or Mastercard wholesale rates with no FX fee or added markup. Rates can still move between checking Google and the transaction being processed, so an exact match is not guaranteed. YouTrip currently states that overseas ATM withdrawals are free for the first A$1,500 per calendar month, with a 2% fee after that; an ATM operator may still charge its own fee. At an overseas ATM or card terminal, choose the local currency rather than AUD to avoid the operator’s Dynamic Currency Conversion rate. Macquarie does not charge its own overseas ATM withdrawal fee, although the ATM operator may. Referral links remain valid for 30 days, so confirm the offer shown after opening the link.
